Edwardsville is a city in Madison County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 21,491. It is a vibrant community and a college town (home of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville). It is the county seat of Madison CountyGR6 and is the third oldest city in the State of Illinois. The City was named in honor of Ninian Edwards, Governor of the Illinois Territory and, later, Governor of Illinois. It is a community that is rich in history and full of beautiful homes and neighborhoods.
